Viera / Melbourne
In 1989, Dean Mead opened its first office in Brevard County where Mason Blake and the firm began intensive work for the development of a new town in Brevard County known as Viera. In 1992, when Leonard Spielvogel and Paul Goldman joined the firm, a second Brevard County office was opened in Merritt Island. In 2003, those two offices were combined into one location in Viera, where the firm conducts business under the name Dean Mead.
Dean Mead worked closely alongside our client, agricultural company Duda & Co., throughout the establishment of the wholly-owned subsidiary, The Viera Company, to manage development of Viera and the company’s non-agricultural land holdings. Over the course of many years, we have maintained a strong working relationship with Duda. Dean Mead has invested in Viera since the beginning and is committed to its ongoing success. What was once open land on the company’s ranch has developed into the home of many of the county government’s buildings and flourished into a master planned community.
Space Coast Connections
The Space Coast, as Brevard County is commonly known, earned its name from the presence of the Kennedy Space Center and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, where NASA, the military and commercial interests launch manned and unmanned rockets. The Space Coast is also home to Port Canaveral, Patrick Air Force Base and numerous aerospace and technology companies and defense contractors
The quality of life on the Space Coast is extraordinary where you’ll find some of Florida’s most pristine beaches and recreational fishing communities. The region offers a relaxed atmosphere for residents and tourists alike.
Giving Back to Our Community
Dean Mead is proud of its commitment and service to the Space Coast. Our lawyers support charitable and civic organizations within the area, as well as serving active roles in leadership positions.
The Viera office has enjoyed a close business relationship with the Florida Institute of Technology for more than 15 years. Dean Mead has been pleased to sponsor a variety of programs, including the Florida Tech Sporting Affair, which is the private university’s largest fundraising event and includes a golf tournament, $1 Million hole-in-one shootout, and the Chopper Dropper. Proceeds benefit athletic scholarships for its student athletes.
In addition to the firm’s monetary contributions, Dean Mead’s lawyers donate hundreds of hours to public service for the benefit of our community. We embrace the opportunity to take leadership roles on boards of many organizations throughout Brevard County and beyond.
