(Orlando, FL) Estate Planning attorney Lauren Detzel addressed “Avoiding the Collapse of Gift Plans and Steering Clear of Estate Inclusion” during the American College of Trust and Estate Council Summer Meeting held in Montreal, Canada. The discussion reviewed key elements of estate planning law including: reciprocal trust and step-transaction doctrine, impermissible direct and indirect control of gifts, transfers for less than full consideration, and unsatisfied IOUs.
Lauren joined fellow panelists Elizabeth Bawden with Withers Worldwide in Los Angeles, California, and Steven J. Schindler with Everbridge Law Group in Seattle, Washington. The panelists focused on gifts and transfer tax reporting in today’s environment, diving into the structure and tax impact of commonly used gift tools in estate planning.
