(Orlando, FL) Dean Mead partnered with the University of Florida (UF) Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) to host the Indian River Gator Gathering on Friday, September 26. The event welcomed over 100 UF alumni and supporters to tour the UF/IFAS Indian River Research and Education Center (IRREC), which was followed by remarks shared by the new UF College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) Dean, Dr. Kati Migliaccio, and IRREC center director, Dr. Mark Kistler.

Regarding the event, Migliaccio shared, “I was thrilled to connect with our IFAS team, stakeholders, alumni and local leaders at the IRREC event last Friday.  As Dean of CALS, these events are valuable opportunities to listen, learn and explore how I can better serve in this role to meet the needs of our community.”

Kistler remarked, “We were excited to welcome Dr. Migliaccio to the Indian River Research and Education Center! This was a great event for our CALS alumni and supporters to interact with Dr. Migliaccio and to see the diverse agricultural and natural resource research being conducted at the center.”

Michael Minton, shareholder and attorney with Dean Mead, shared his family has been actively involved with IRREC since its inception in 1947, noting his grandfather, O.C. Minton was instrumental in working with community leaders to secure the original grove lease and the 720 acres on which IRREC is located. “When I opened Dean Mead’s law office in Fort Pierce in 1987,” shares Minton, “I made a commitment to the agricultural community that we show our firm’s support at every opportunity. Whether it was hosting the St. Lucie County Chamber’s Agri Business committee meetings here, helping to establish the Treasure Coast Agricultural Research Foundation, or sponsoring events like today’s Gator Gathering.”
