(Orlando, FL) Attorney Lee Dobbins has been awarded the Pete Hegener Leadership Award by the St. Lucie County Economic Development Council’s (EDC) 11th annual leadership dinner on May 8. This prestigious award recognizes a dedicated business leader who has made significant contributions to St. Lucie County’s economy and quality of life. Michael Minton, Dean Mead attorney and the fourth recipient of the award, and Richard Tambone, co-owner of the family of Tambone companies and 10th recipient, present Lee with the award.
During the announcement Michael shared Lee is the “go-to guy” noting, “He has risen to a leadership position in every endeavor he has undertaken.” In the nomination submitted to the EDC, Linda Cox, Acting City Manager for the City of Fort Pierce shared “Lee’s influence is felt throughout the community in ways that often go unnoticed by the public. His fingerprints are on many of the most successful economic development initiatives in the region. His steady leadership, commitment to collaboration, and dedication to the community have shaped the economic development landscape of St. Lucie County in ways that will continue to pay dividends for years to come.”
Addressing attendees following the award announcement, Dobbins recognized his fellow nominees sharing, “reflecting on fellow nominees and all of the things they have accomplished, these things do not just happen.” Dobbins shared reflections on the development of the Treasure Coast supported by the collective efforts of government, business, and community.
The nine members of the 2025 EDC Hegener Award selection committee chose Dobbins as the person who best embodies the leadership and vision of the award’s namesake, Pete Hegener, from a field of 12 nominees, including five other semi-finalists: Will Armstead, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County; Travis Leonard, owner and president of A & G Concrete Pools; Jill Marasa, Treasure Coast director of development for Ashley Capital; Joey Miller, founder of St. Lucie Battery & Tire; and Bob Zaccheo of Project LIFT.
Recent Hegener Award recipients include the late Bud Adams of Adams Ranch; Ken Pruitt, former Florida Senate president and former St. Lucie County property appraiser; Tammy Roncaglione, CenterState Bank community president, and Russ Blackburn, former Port St. Lucie City Manager.
