Peter Dunbar Earns Florida Bar Board Certification in Condominium and Planned Development Law

Tallahassee, FL — Dean, Mead & Dunbar announced today that Peter M. Dunbar, managing shareholder of the firm’s Tallahassee office, has earned Board Certification in Condominium and Planned Development Law from The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization & Education. This is a significant milestone in Dunbar’s legal career because he is now distinguished as a specialist and expert in the area of condominium and planned development law by The Florida Bar.

Board certification recognizes attorneys’ special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in practice. Only 7% of the lawyers eligible to practice law in Florida have achieved board certification.

Dunbar’s practice focuses on governmental, administrative, and real property law. Drawing on a distinguished background of public service, he represents and advocates on behalf of a variety of private and public interests before the Florida Legislature and the Executive Branch departments and agencies of Florida state government. Dunbar began his long career in Florida government in 1967 as a staff director in the Florida Legislature.  He served as the Pasco County attorney and later served for five terms as a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Upon leaving the Legislature, he held the posts of General Counsel and Director of Legislative Affairs for Governor Bob Martinez and later served as the General Counsel at the Department of Financial Services. Dunbar served as Chief of Staff during the transition from the Martinez administration to the administration of Governor Lawton Chiles, and he is former Chairman and two-term member of the Florida Ethics Commission.

Dunbar was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1972, and during his professional career has worked extensively in the field of real property law and with the law governing condominiums and community associations. He is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers; he serves as an adjunct professor at Florida State University College of Law; and he has been selected by his peers as a member of Florida Trend’s Legal Elite Hall of Fame. Currently, Dunbar serves on the inaugural committee for the Condominium and Planned Development Law Certification for The Florida Bar.

Background:

Board certification is The Florida Bar’s highest evaluation of attorneys’ competency, experience and professionalism in the areas of law approved for specialization. The Florida Bar maintains high standards lawyers must meet before seeking certification in one or more of the 27 areas of law approved by the Florida Supreme Court for board certification. Even if an attorney does meet the stringent application criteria; judges and other lawyers must evaluate the lawyer as to character, ethics and professionalism; and the lawyer must pass a rigorous examination or meet strict criteria to exempt the exam before officially earning board certification.  Additional information about Board certification is available at FloridaBar.org/certification.
