Solar Farming Energy Trend Discussed by Michael Minton in Choose Energy

In a February 27 Choose Energy article, “Four energy trends that affect consumers positively,” Michael Minton examines new energy trends and changes that are positively affecting consumers.

Minton specifically discusses how consumers with farmland are able to make money by selling or leasing their farmland to power companies.

“Existing farmland has proven to be attractive to the power companies because they tend to have less wetland and endangered species obstacles and some isolation to help avoid not-in-my-back yard conflicts,” Minton says. “Both abandoned citrus groves and cattle ranch property are ideal for solar energy development.”

Some of these solar farming deals have been negotiated to last as long as 30 years.
