Peter M. Dunbar, Managing shareholder at Dean Mead & Dunbar in Tallahassee, was the guest lecturer for the Annual Public Lecture hosted by The Institute on World War II and the Human Experience at Florida State University on September 19, 2017. More than 100 attendees came out to hear Dunbar’s lecture titled, “A Son Discovers His Father’s War: Before They Were the Black Sheep” which followed the story of his father, Carl O. Dunbar, and his time in the Marine Corps fighter squadron in the Pacific theatre of World War II.
Peter Dunbar is the editor of the book titled, “Before They Were the Black Sheep: Marine Fighting Squadron VMF-214 and the Battle for the Solomon Islands” which is a compilation of his father’s letters home that describe the training and living conditions he faced as a Marine during the early years of World War II.
