Brad Gould Earns Florida Bar Board Certification in Tax Law

Fort Pierce, FL — Dean, Mead, Minton & Zwemer announced today that Brad Gould, shareholder in the Fort Pierce office, has earned Board Certification in Tax Law from The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization & Education. This is a significant milestone in Gould’s legal career because he is now distinguished as a specialist and expert in the area of tax law by The Florida Bar.

Board certification recognizes attorneys’ special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in practice. Only 7% of the lawyers eligible to practice law in Florida have earned board certification. Gould is the only attorney in St. Lucie County to achieve the designation as a Board Certified attorney in Tax Law.

Gould is a member of Dean Mead’s Tax and Corporate department. He practices in the areas of federal income, estate, and gift tax law and business succession planning and concentrates on business and tax law issues, especially those involving closely held business organizations (S corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies), and their owners. Gould represents businesses and business owners in all types of business and tax matters, including entity selection, reorganization, and governance. He routinely advises business owners and other clients on estate and asset preservation planning matters.  In addition, he represents individuals, businesses and fiduciaries before the Internal Revenue Service and trustees, personal representatives and family members in disputes over wills, trusts and estates.

Currently, Gould serves as Vice-Chair of the S Corporations Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tax Section, member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA), and a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. He is a frequent speaker at national and regional conferences, including those sponsored by the American Bar Association Tax Section, FICPA, and the American Academy of Attorney-CPAs.

Gould earned his law degree in 2001 from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in accounting from the University of Florida in 1998.

Background:

Board certification is The Florida Bar’s highest evaluation of attorneys’ competency, experience and professionalism in the areas of law approved for specialization. The Florida Bar maintains high standards lawyers must meet before seeking certification in one or more of the 27 areas of law approved by the Florida Supreme Court for board certification. Even if an attorney does meet the stringent application criteria; judges and other lawyers must evaluate the lawyer as to character, ethics and professionalism; and the lawyer must pass a rigorous examination or meet strict criteria to exempt the exam before officially earning board certification.  Additional information about Board certification is available at FloridaBar.org/certification.
