Gainesville Dean Mead Office Co-Hosts Federal Judicial Reception

Published: September 24th, 2013

On September 16, a number of local federal judges from the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida, state judges from the Eighth Judicial Circuit, and over 100 lawyers and attendees from the UF law school gathered to honor the newest members of the federal bench at a reception hosted by the North Central Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association (FBA), the University of Florida College of Law, Dean Mead, and other law firms in the Gainesville area.  Dean Mead’s Gainesville office was well represented.  Robert Griscti, Of Counsel and an active member of this FBA Chapter, helped organize the event.

The program began with an informal cocktail hour, followed by recognition of the honorees:

•    Mark E. Walker , United States District Judge, Northern District of Florida
•    Karen K. Specie, Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge, District of Florida
•    Gary R. Jones, United States Magistrate Judge, Northern District of Florida, Gainesville Division
•    Philip R. Lammens, United States Magistrate Judge, Middle District of Florida, Ocala Division

Those judges spoke briefly and highlighted the importance of judges, lawyers and students participating in bar association and related organizations.  Honoree and Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Florida, Karen K. Specie, who sits in Tallahassee and resides in the Gainesville area, commented that she enjoyed meeting those at the reception in an out-of-courtroom setting, rather than from just the “other side of the bench.”

The reception program concluded with an election of officers and general board members and a brief annual meeting for the Chapter, which is very active in the Gainesville and Ocala Divisions.

Without donors such as Dean Mead, events such as this one would not be possible. To become a member of the North Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Bar Association please visit:
