Pitfalls and Tax Consequences of Debt Restructuring

On November 1, 2011, Dean Mead’s Real Estate Development Industry Team launched a new seminar series with a unique program entitled, “Pitfalls and Planning for the Tax Consequences of Loan Workouts and Debt Restructuring” at the Orange County Bar Association in Orlando. There were more than 50 people in attendance. Dean Mead attorneys, Steve Lee, Vicki Berman and Christine Weingart, examined a number of scenarios for loan workouts and debt restructuring in order to highlight the possible tax consequences and other ramifications of such workouts and restructuring, with emphasis on what may be unforseen results and costs. Planning opportunities to overcome those results and costs were also discussed.

A summary of the program is provided here along with a copy of the presentation materials provided during the presentation.
